Terminology
What do you call the person that values (treasures? looks forward to? hopes for?) moments of extreme distress in others/himself because of a presumed glimpse into the soul that those moments offer?

or a masochist. Both however derive gratification from inflicting/feeling pain (or experiencing/causing those moments of distress for this argument’s sake). What I’m talking doesn’t particularly involve pleasure or gratification, and the person plays more of an observatory role than anything else…
